Chickenshed Players 3 (ages 10-13)

Kids of all abilities and backgrounds take part in creating and devising a musical adaptation of the book The Tigon and the Liger to be performed in 14Y Theater. During the first half of the semester Players work on formatting the characters journey, script writing and adding their input into the music and choreography.

This new production centers on the natural world and the risks to our planet and demonstrates how art and science are not only compatible fields but can and often do, enhance each other. Guests scientists will empower our Players to take disciplinary intersection even further to explore how theatre can be a megaphone for science, and how science informs the art we create. Students also visit the Museum of Natural History as part of their character development research.

Led by talented professional Teaching Artists, our no-audition approach in the second half of the semester will be devoted to the rehearsal and production of the newly-devised show whilst continuing discussion about how science and art can influence and inform each other.

Chickenshed Players 4 (ages 13-17+)

Teens of all abilities and backgrounds bring their individual creativity and strengths to devise a musical adaptation of the book The Tigon and the Liger to be performed in 14Y Theater. During the first half of the semester Players work on formatting the characters journey, script writing and creating and adapting the music and choreography.

Using the original characters from the book as a jumping off point, this new production centers on the natural world and the risks to our planet and Players will work with the author to explore the severity and importance of extinction as they incorporate their ideas into the script. Guest scientists will workshop such concepts as biological diversity and endangered species and a trip to the Museum of Natural History will further aid their script development research.

The second half of the semester is devoted to rehearsal and production of the newly-devised show whilst the scientific exploration continues with discussions about how science and art can influence and inform each other, how scientific methodology applies in the performing arts, and what careers in both arts and sciences might have in common.
