Summer Shed (1 Week)

Fundamentals & Devising

Step into the spotlight with our one-week Summer Shed Fundamentals & Devising intensive. Designed for young people ages 6–16, this high-energy theatre experience invites participants to explore musical theatre, develop performance skills and discover the excitement of creating original work together.

Through singing, dancing, acting, storytelling and basic American Sign Language (ASL), young people explore how voice, movement, character and sign can combine to tell powerful stories. Guided by our experienced theatre practitioners, they build confidence, experiment with new ideas and learn the fundamentals of performance in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Whether they are stepping on stage for the first time or already love to perform, everyone is encouraged to contribute, collaborate and find their own creative voice.

Working in age-appropriate groups, participants develop their ideas as an ensemble, discovering how to turn individual contributions into something exciting and meaningful together. Along the way, they build friendships, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, and experience the joy of making theatre where every voice matters.

The week culminates in a lively Sharing of Our Work for family and friends, celebrating the songs, scenes, movement and original pieces the group has created. It’s an opportunity for young artists to share what they’ve discovered, celebrate their achievements and experience the magic of making theatre together — the Chickenshed way.
