Summer Shed (2 Weeks)

Overview
Theatre-Making & Performance
Two weeks. Endless possibilities. Step into the magic of Summer Shed for an immersive theatre experience where young people explore their creativity, discover new skills and bring original ideas to life.
Through singing, dancing, acting, storytelling, poetry, creative making and basic American Sign Language (ASL), participants explore the many ways we can communicate and tell stories on stage. Working with experienced theatre practitioners, they develop performance skills, experiment with voice and movement, create characters and scenes, and discover how individual ideas can come together to make something extraordinary.
With two weeks to explore, there’s more time to build confidence, form friendships and develop ideas as an ensemble. Participants will create props and visual elements, explore spoken word and poetry, and discover how music, movement and sign can combine to communicate stories in exciting new ways. Working in age-appropriate groups, everyone is encouraged to contribute, take creative risks and find their own way to shine in a supportive, inclusive environment.
The two weeks culminate in a joyful Sharing of Our Work for family and friends. More than a traditional recital, this collaborative performance celebrates the original work the young people have created together, bringing together ensemble songs and dances, devised scenes, poetry, integrated ASL and visual elements.
At Chickenshed NYC, theatre is for everyone. Summer Shed celebrates what happens when young people are given the space, encouragement and freedom to express themselves, work together and discover just how much they can achieve.
